Steering the course: A new era for the Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine

It is with immense honor and a deep sense of responsibility that I assume the role of Editor-in-Chief for the esteemed Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine (JASSM), effective from April 1, 2024. Following in the footsteps of such distinguished leadership, I am committed to upholding the journal’s legacy of excellence and propelling it forward in this dynamic field. At the outset, I extend my sincere appreciation to my predecessors for their dedication and vision in guiding this journal to its current stature. Their leadership has laid a solid foundation on which we can build and expand, propelling us toward new frontiers of innovation and excellence.

JASSM has been a cornerstone for disseminating cutting-edge research in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. Its commitment to rigorous peer-review, high-quality content, and accessibility through open-access publication has fostered a vibrant global community of researchers and practitioners. Since 2020, JASSM has published 84 articles, which have received 184 citations, with 2.05 citations per paper. The rejection rate of JASSM is around 35%. There has been a total of 840,858 article downloads of JASSM’s publications, with gradual increments over the years [Figure 1]. The viewership of the JASSM publications is from across the globe, with the maximum being from India, USA, UK, Australia, and Canada.

The details of the top 10 most cited articles of JASSM, until now, is provided in Table 1. This list has some prominent names in the field of arthroscopy and sports medicine from across the globe. Building on this strong foundation, I envision several areas of focus for JASSM’s future:

  • Enhancing the Author Experience: We will strive to streamline the submission and review process, providing authors with timely and constructive feedback.

  • Promoting Innovation: JASSM will showcase groundbreaking research exploring minimally invasive techniques, novel technologies, and advancements in rehabilitation protocols.

  • Expanding Global Reach: We will actively engage with international researchers and encourage submissions that reflect the diverse landscape of sports medicine practices worldwide.

  • Facilitating Knowledge Translation: JASSM will prioritize research with a clear link to clinical application, ensuring our findings have a direct impact on patient care.

JASSM: Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Medicine

As the field of sports medicine continues to evolve, JASSM will remain at the forefront, fostering open dialogue and critical analysis to shape best practices. We will embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data to enhance research methodologies and dissemination. This journey requires collaboration. I look forward to working closely with the esteemed Editorial Board, reviewers, and the entire JASSM team. We will continue to foster a culture of excellence, attracting the most innovative research and insightful commentaries. So far, JASSM is indexed with Google Scholar, ProQuest, ReadCube, CrossRef, and Portico.

Looking ahead, we plan to have it indexed with the Directory of Open Access Journals, PubMed, Scopus, and Embase. Ultimately, JASSM would continue to serve a vital role in advancing the field of sports medicine, enabling athletes of all levels to achieve optimal performance and recover from injuries safely and effectively. It is a privilege to be entrusted with this responsibility, and I am confident that together, we will guide JASSM toward an even brighter future.
